As a NJ mother of 4 and a baby, children, milestone (including cake smash) photographer I have seen my share of amazing cakes in all shapes & sizes and themes. I’ve put together a short list of NJ bakeries that myself &/or my clients have used in the past for their smash cakes. Some big, some small but all are fabulous! I hope one of these amazing bakeries will be the perfect option for your next baking needs because I know as a small business owner myself that they rely on everyday people like you & me to keep them in business and continue to grow their customer base.

An upscale custom bakery which was once featured on Food Network’s Cup Cake Wars this small town bakery & ice cream shop is a local favorite! Personally I’ve been ordering from for over 10 years now & they never disappointment. You can choose from a wide variety of gourmet cupcakes, one of their signature cakes or a custom designed cakes. They offer gluten-free cakes and cupcakes and the classic French macaron recipes are gluten-free. This is a very busy bakery & you should plan to order with at least 2-4 weeks notice possibly even 6 weeks for custom order during their busy season. When you’re there picking up your smash cake be sure to grab a raspberry dessert bar & some macarons too. If for any reason you’re unable to pick up your cake prior to your photo session with Sarah Dipity Photography just let me know & I can arrange pick up for you since it’s close enough to my studio.

8. Wegmans, Whole Foods, Shoprite, etc.

I know these grocery store bakeries aren’t local small businesses but when you have to stick to a tight budget (which we all understand is the case sometimes) these are still good options! Purchase yourself a cute topper from Amazon (or ask your photographer if they have them, because I do) & you’re set! All three of these bakeries can make cute, budget friendly smash cakes. From a simple whipped or buttercream iced cake in white to an ombre or sprinkled covered cake. They are perfect sized & easy to oder & pick up from a location near you or your photographer.
